REMEMBER THE TITANS
Racism is a big example of what is happening in the world right now, many films try to recreate what is happening between the cultures and heal the divides just like “Remember the titans” directed by Boaz Yankin. This film is one of the better examples of a sports film with a moral message in it. Boaz Yankin directed an amazing movie that has bought to life a story of how white and black people build unity and build a town’s unity to respect each other and how one person’s sacrifice can change history.
The movie was set during the wave of school integrations in 1971. This movie is about a football team called the Titans that go to T.C Williams High School, they were an unbeaten team in the 1971 season. While the team was forced to integrate and join a Black team together and also a new appointee coach Boom (Denzel Washington) with coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton) and together take the opportunity to coach a diverse football team led by Gerry Bertier (Ryan Thrust) and Julies Campbell (Wood Harris) learning to work together to unite there team and their town, family and friends and destroy the hatred between black and white people. In my opinion, this film was a great way to show racism on its own and how people can change their friendships between them all to become friends and respect each other for who they are not for there sin color.
The theme is about integration and if people would successfully work well together in a black and white people environment. When Coach Boon takes the team all on run to the Gettys burg cemetery where 50,000 people died fighting for what they are fighting for in the film on that day and after the team. My opinion about the montage that they did while the team was running through the forest was good the music really well fit the theme and all-around a great montage and then when they stopped at the cemetery. Coach Boon talked to them at the cemetery and then the team realizes that they need to work a lot harder together as an integrated football team and not worry about there skin color but worry about there own teamwork.
The music played in this film was very suited to the theme and was very well chosen and added a lot of character to the film and since the film was a 1970s film and the music suited well because the music was made around the same time. The use of the music when the black people and white people were fighting still gave the film a groovy feel and especially when the whole team started signing together to show unity between them all.
The acting in this film was very relatable to the modern world back then and today, the fact that Emma, Gerry’s girlfriend didn’t shake Julies’ hand after they came back from the football camp shows disrespect to black people, at the end of the film she came up to Julies and shook his hand to show respect.
In conclusion, I liked the film a lot and everything fitted well together, it definatly shows what the world is like in modern society and how things have changed and how things need to improve.
